A new sewing adventure!

The SewingDude is about to embark on a new sewing adventure. My wife got me "Quiltagami" for Christmas. Basically, it's a combination of quilting and origami. Since I'm pretty good at the latter, and fair at the former, this should be fun to try out. This is one skill I'm going to have to take slooooooowly...

Kimono-style Child's Robe

I'm getting quite good at this, if I do say so my self. I made this bathrobe for my other child, out of fleece with a satin blanket binding edge. It's her Christmas Present. Think she'll like it?

Two-piece child's bathrobe

I made this one for my kid, who doesn't like to wear clothes after dinner but still needs something to cover up with. SewingDude Pattern #2, pink fleece.

My Halloween Costume

This one took about 5 hours, start to finish. I haven't entirely decided on what to be yet; either Lord Voldemort, Lucius Malfoy or a dementor. Simplicity Pattern 9887.

And here's the finished robe

With Ravenclaw patch from patchgeeks.com.

I added the "P" (for Prefect) emblem before sewing on the house patch and I'm looking at adding an honor guard-style agulet (shoulder rope and tassel) for a little extra color.

Ravenclaw Prefect Robes

I just finished with my oldest daughter's Halloween costume; she decided this year she wanted to go as a Ravenclaw Prefect from Harry Potter. This one is from Simplicity pattern 3993. I added the buttons and gold border and gave it a blue lining (though next time I'll build the lining and outer layer seperately and then assemble it as a whole).

I want to go as Mr. Weasley, but she thinks I should be Lucius Malfoy. We'll see...

The Manly art of Sewing

Welcome to my blog! If you're a man who likes to sew, or if you are a woman who knows a man who likes to sew, I hope you'll find it entertaining, informative and useful.

Here's a few things I've done recently, just to kick it off:
