Halloween 2010

The Dude has been away a while, but he hasn't been idle! Here's a pic of this year's costume. Can you guess which popular video game character D1 is going as?

Dudestuff on Display

Here's pics of the Dude's latest work, and some old classics. They're hanging in a local shop window, as part of a "Men Doing Crafty Stuff" display.

On the left are the Dudettes' Easter dresses, D2's on the wall and D1's on the mannequin. Middle is the Dude's "Star Wars" shirt that Mrs. Dude was horrified to learn he was actually going to wear in public. On the right is an afghan knitted by the Dude's FIL.

Next project... Pants!

Happy Memorial Day

The Dude would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all Veterans of all wars, and wish those currently serving at home and overseas all the best. SD prays for your safe return to all your loved ones.

In honor of Air Force veterans in particular, the Dude made this dress (well two actually) for his kids this weekend. Each took about 1 1/2 hours not including cutting and pinning. Zoom in and you'll see the Air Force Seal in each circle!

First project with new machine!

SD's in-laws have come to his rescue and sent a new machine, a Scandinavia 300! It does embroidery! SD has some practicing to do...

Meanwhile, here's a photo of the Dude's latest project. He finished it tonight, and SD's DW commented "Oh, God, you're going to wear it tomorrow, aren't you?"

Yes, of course. Why not?

Or maybe not

Okay, so check it out. Sewing Dude got his machine back from storage and finally got a chance to open it up and live up to his name a bit, only to find that for the first time in 21 years of military moves, something got destroyed.

Yep, that's right. The movers did a number on Sewing Dude's beloved machine. Needless to say, SD will be filing a claim and an official complaint against the company responsible.

For now SD is borrowing mom's ancient Singer. It's not fancy or anything, but it works. And it's all metal, so it won't break easily.

Peace,

SD

The return of Sewing Dude

I have now been without my sewing machine for nearly a year, and it's been getting to me. Fortunately, I have been able to secure adequate, if temporary, housing for me and my family. So, the Air Force is making its final shipment of household goods at government expense sometime this month. We'll be swamped by boxes for a while, but at least I'll be able to make cool stuff again.

The Sewing Dude will return!
